Margret J. Kim, Program Co-Chair, is Senior International
Climate Change Counsel and China Program Director for the Air Resources Board and the California Environmental Protection Agency. Previously, she served as General Counsel
and Deputy Secretary for California Resources Agency and
Public Adviser to the California Energy Commission.
Mark L. Stermitz, Program Co-Chair, an attorney with Crowley Fleck PLLP, is an experienced litigator and environmental attorney with nearly 30 years experience in a wide range of cases and jurisdictions. He specializes in energy and natural resource matters.
Aimee Barnes is the Senior Manager of U.S. Regulatory Affairs
for EcoSecurities, where she focuses on strategic analysis of,
and advocacy related to state, regional and federal climate change
policy initiatives. She is experienced in areas including project-based
emission reductions (carbon offsets) for compliance and
voluntary markets.
Derik Broekhoff is Vice President for Policy at the California Climate Action Registry, where he is responsible for managing
the policy development staff and overseeing development of
protocols for quantifying and registering greenhouse gas
reductions from carbon offset projects. He also manages the
development of climate change policies and programs for the
California Registry.
Peter Hsiao, head of the Land Use and Environmental Law
Group at Morrison & Foerster LLP, focuses on complex litigation
with a specialty in environmental laws and chemical regulations. He
has 20 years of experience as a trial lawyer, having formerly served
with the U.S. Department of Justice as the senior trial attorney for
environmental and natural resources matters for the U.S. Attorney's
Office in Los Angeles.
David Hunter, PhD, is Director, U.S. Policy, for the International Emissions Trading Association, an organization created
to help establish a functional international framework for trading
greenhouse gas emissions reductions. He was previously
the principal energy, environment and climate change advisor
to two United States Senators and a Senate Committee.
Wayne Lei, PhD, Director of Environmental Affairs at Portland General Electric, is responsible for maintaining and implementing
PGE’s Environmental Policy. He previously served as supervisor
for the Radiation Protection Department at Trojan Nuclear
Plant; Health Physicist in the Nuclear Safety and Regulation
Department; at the Carolina Power and Light Company.
Iain Morrow, a civil servant with the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC). He has worked on energy
and greenhouse gas emissions policy since 2003, including
working for the California Air Resources Board on AB32 in
2008. Prior to that, he managed the office of the UK
Government’s Chief Scientific Adviser
Greg San Martin, Climate Protection Program Manager for Pacific Gas & Electric, has over 20 years of climate and air
quality experience. Since 2001, he has been actively involved in
creating and maintaining PG&E’s greenhouse gas reporting program
and in the creation of numerous GHG emission reduction
reporting protocols.
Laura Tranter, a Director of Origination with Element Markets, has over a decade of emissions experience split between environmental policy and commercial trading floor roles.
Nicholas W. van Aelstyn, a principal with Beveridge & Diamond PC, has more than 17 years environmental counseling and
litigation experience. He co-chairs the firm’s Climate Change
as well as its Subsurface Contamination & Superfund practice
groups. He is also a registered lobbyist and has been active in a
number of legislative and rulemaking climate change issues.
Diane Wittenberg, Keynote Speaker, is the Executive Director
of The Climate Registry, a nonprofit organization that establishes
measurement, reporting and verification standards for
greenhouse gas emissions across North America. She was
previously President of the California Climate Action Registry
and prior to that, served as President of two subsidiaries of
Edison International.
