The topic of water intrusion and other construction defects and the hazards they pose are nothing new. Moisture penetration has long been a problem for residential buildings. Steven J. Jager, Program Chair, is the owner and lead attorney of Jager Law Office PLLC, where his practice emphasizes defense of construction site claims including building defects, person¬al injury, economic and delay claims. He also represents clients involving extensive property damage claims, product liability and general liability.

Randal S. Thiel, Program Chair, is a member at Chism Thiel McCafferty Campbell & Steinmark PLLC, where his practice is devoted to construction and commercial litigation. He represents owners, general contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers involved in public and private construction projects. He regularly conducts seminars and presentations to industry trade groups on a variety of construction-related topics.

Thomas F. Ahearne is a member with Foster Pepper PLLC, where he is the chair of his firm’s Insurance Coverage Practice Group. He represents policyholders, with substantial ex-perience in securing coverage for building owners, condomini¬um associations, developers, contractors, subcontractors and suppliers in construction defect and water intrusion disputes.

Mark Rosencrantz, of Stanislaw Ashbaugh LLP, focuses his practice on construction-related disputes and intellectual property litigation and counseling. He has assisted clients in protesting the awarding of competitively bid projects. He has represented clients in matters concerning misappropriation of plans and confidential information.

Michael P. Showalter is president and owner of Construction Dispute Resolution, Inc. His company works to resolve construction disputes through mediation, arbitration, fact-finding and expert consulting. His work includes construction defect issues, personal injury cases, insurance claims defense, and building envelope analysis.

Christopher J. Soelling, of Christopher J. Soelling PLLC, is a full-time mediator and arbitrator with firsthand experience both prosecuting and defending construction claims.

J. Kay Thorne, CPCU is principal of Thorne Risk Management Consulting, Inc. He is a licensed insurance agent and broker in WA, AK and CA, and has been involved in the insurance industry for over 36 years. He has provided expert witness and consulting services for policyholders and insurance companies on a variety of insurance related matters and has experience and expertise in claim handling, claim management and litigation management on a wide variety of large complex insurance claims.

George Tsongas PhD, PE, is a private consulting engineer and a Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering at Portland State University. He is a building scientist specializing in water movement and construction defects in buildings with emphasis on moisture, mold, and rot problems. He has inspected over 10,000 dwelling units for siding, wall, roof, floor, and indoor moisture problems over the last 30 years and regularly acts as an expert witness in legal cases involving a wide variety of moisture problems in residences.
