This panel will present a summary of tools available to winery owners to evaluate and improve their water use practices with the goal of reducing source water needs and energy bills.

Now more than ever, wineries are looking at their process wastewater as a potential resource, rather than a waste stream that requires disposal. This panel will discuss opportunities to reuse/recycle process wastewater in the winery, and will provide an overview of permitting considerations for reusing process wastewater for irrigation. It will also outline the opportunities and constraints for use of high quality treated municipal effluent, which is now available to wineries in some regions.

Robert Chrobak, PE, Program Co-Chair, is a Vice President with Kennedy/Jenks Consultants, with over 25 years experience in water and wastewater evaluation and treatment system design, particularly in the wine and food processing industries, including operational and permitting/regulatory negotiation support.

John A. McKinsey, Program Co-Chair, is an attorney with Stoel Rives LLP and the California Co-Chair for their Winery & Vineyard Law Group. He focuses his wine practice on environmental and regulatory matters, winery licensing, ADA design, compliance, and liability issues.

Todd Acker is a Regional Sales Manager, International Sales, with FedEx Services. He has been a leader in the development of FedEx’s International Wine Program and has traveled abroad in an effort to better understand the burgeoning international wine market and its impact on the wine industry.

J. Robert Anglin, Jr. is an attorney in the Hospitality Group at Dickenson Peatman & Fogarty, where his practice focuses on land use regulation and environmental law. He assists wineries, hotels, restaurants, and institutions to obtain government approval to establish and expand their facilities and operations.

Scott P. Bartley, AIA, is a principal architect for Hall & Bartley Architects. His practice has focused on the wine industry since the firm’s founding in 1983.

Richard Brockmeyer is owner of Wine Industry Investment Consulting, a service advising corporations and associations seeking investment properties in the fine wine and vineyard industry. He has 30+ years of experience acquiring, developing, and managing orchards, vineyards, and wineries for investor owners.

Gary M. Carlton is a Senior Client Manager with Kennedy/Jenks Consultants where he specializes in assisting clients to develop and implement regulatory compliance strategies for wastewater management operations.

Mary Lou Cotton is a Senior Water Resources Manager with Kennedy/Jenks Consultants, a full-service engineering and environmental services consulting firm founded in 1918. The company helped pioneer consulting engineering in the western U.S. and has completed approximately 4,000 projects.

Anthony J. DeCristoforo, Of Counsel with Stoel Rives LLP, practices in the firm's Labor & Employment group. His employment litigation practice focuses on the representation of employers and supervisors in disputes in state and federal courts, as well as in administrative proceedings and arbitrations.

J. Scott Gerien is a Director with Dickenson Peatman & Fogarty. His representation of wineries and vineyards allowed him to develop a special expertise concerning intellectual property affecting these industries.

Michael J. Holman, an attorney with Dickenson Peatman & Fogarty, represents winery owners and investors in the sale and acquisition of grower and winery-related assets as well as business planning and alcoholic beverage compliance for the wine and hospitality industries.

Jerry R. Jolly is a consultant for Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, assigned to the firm's Wine, Beer and Spirits Law practice. He has over 31 years of experience in public service including licensing, enforcement, business practice and fiscal management of statewide programs.

Allison Jordan is Executive Director of California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance and also retains her role as Wine Institute's Communications Program Manager, providing program management and support for the Sustainable Winegrowing Program.

David Kincaid is Vice President of Facility Development Corporation. He has been in the design/construction business for 23 years and was previously with Rodney Strong Vineyards.

Ian Malone is the Director of Capital Markets at Premier Pacific Vineyards and a member of the firm’s capital markets and finance team.

Stephanie J. Meier, an attorney with Stoel Rives LLP in the firm's Natural Resources & Land Use group, focuses her practice in the area of food and beverage law. She has managed the licensing and permitting for one of Washington's first winery alternating proprietorships.

Robert Morris is the Director of Operations with Copain Custom Crush. His winery experience began at Copain Wine Cellars during the 2000 harvest season. Prior to joining Copain, he worked at HP/Agilent Technologies in Manufacturing Engineering, Automation Design, and Research and Development.

Robert J. Saperstein, Managing Shareholder with Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck LLP, is also a member of the firm’s Executive Committee, Natural Resources Department and Water Practice Group.

James M. Seff, a partner with Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, is leader of the firm’s Wine, Beer & Spirits practice. He previously spent 13 years as a lawyer with Wine Institute.

James A. Zehren is an attorney with Stoel Rives LLP. His practice is concentrated in construction and design law including business transactions, preventive law and dispute resolution. He emphasizes preparation and negotiation of contract documents; licensing, registration and code compliance issues.
