Seminar Overview

Join Program Chair Peter D. Fowler a construction consultant, professional cost estimator, and President of Pete Fowler Construction Services, Inc. along with a faculty of Portland’s finest construction professionals on June 8, 2017 for an exploration of how to manage building and construction risks.

In an entertaining five "acts" we will examine major aspects of risk management using a simplified case study. These acts include:

  • Act 1: Signing a Prime Contract for Construction
  • Act 2: Buying Insurance & Managing Risks
  • Act 3: An Insurance Claim for Damage During Construction
  • Act 4: Construction Claim from Contractor for Additional Cost and Time
  • Act 5: Construction Defect Litigation

There will be no deadly‐boring standing at a podium at this seminar! In each segment, two or more "actors" will play out a scene (a simplified case study) with numerous key points to consider from the perspective of the key players. At the conclusion of each scene, a diverse panel will discuss and debate time‐honored case law, new case law, and best practices for actions the players can take to manage the risks inherent in the building business. Construction Contracts, Risks & Insurance is for anyone involved in constructing, financing, owning, improving, maintaining or managing real property. This presentation is designed to help you avoid the most common pitfalls that cause project shortcomings, defects, delays, cost over‐runs, legal disputes and headaches in general.
