This seminar will cover topics directly relevant to Oregon’s recreational and medical cannabis regimes, in addition to a wide variety of related issues, including conflicts of laws, Oregon state regulatory programs, banking and financing, taxation, employment law, intellectual property, real estate and land use, as well as the ethics issues arising from practicing in this emerging marketplace. The seminar will also provide practical advice that marijuana businesses and their attorneys need to know. Attendees will hear directly from leading practitioners regarding the fast evolving status and future of Oregon’s marijuana industry.

Faculty
Vincent Sliwoski, Program Chair, is a partner with Harris Bricken. He runs the firm’s Oregon office, and works with businesses of all sizes to navigate transactions and disputes. For the past four years, he has represented a large number of Oregon cannabis entities through corporate structuring and commercial transactions, local hearings and state licensure.
Sean Clancy, attorney with Emerge Law Group, is outside business and intellectual property counsel for a variety of innovative industries including state-licensed cannabis, entertainment media, design, consumer products, food, beverages, professional services, software, and new technology. He advises on state and federal trademark rights, copyrights, packaging and labeling, publicity, privacy, trade secrets, non-disclosure agreements and licensing.
Matthew Goldberg, shareholder with Emerge Law Group, focuses his practice on business law, real estate, litigation, bankruptcy and regulatory compliance for the cannabis industry. He has litigated in state and federal courts in Oregon and Washington for clients ranging from Fortune 500 and other large companies to small businesses and individuals.
Janet L. Grayson, PC, is a partner with Grayson Law LLP in the firm’s real estate, business, litigation and estate planning and probate practice. She provides services in all aspects of real estate, business and probate law including planning, transactions, licensing, probate, mediation, arbitration and court matters.
Genny Kiley, shareholder with Emerge Law Group, focuses her practice on business and corporate law. She has extensive experience assisting clients with business structuring, entity formation, mergers and acquisitions, corporate securities, and commercial loan transactions.
Roopal H. Patel, CPA, founded Lilu Financials LLC after 15 years of experience from management consulting, public accounting and industry positions. She is a licensed CPA in Oregon. She is a member of the AICPA and OSCPA. She holds a B.A. from Haverford College and a MBA in international finance and management from Thunderbird & Arizona State University. She has also completed the graduate program in accounting at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

Will Patterson, attorney with Harris Bricken’s Portland office, advises on intellectual property and cannabis law matters with a focus on complex civil litigation, business law, and general transactional work. With a strong work ethic and commitment to client satisfaction, he has gained a reputation for delivering the best possible approaches to every case.
Perry N. Salzhauer is a corporate and environmental attorney with Green Light Law Group. He brings over a decade of experience providing strategic and compliance guidance and legal advice to public and private entities. He has served as both outside and in-house counsel to a variety of companies, investors, and government agencies throughout the United States, and has helped launch several marijuana industry companies and projects.
Harold B. Scoggins III is a shareholder with Farleigh Wada Witt PC. He represents credit unions, banks, and other financial service providers on state and federal regulatory compliance matters, formation and operation of subsidiaries, examination management, contract negotiation and dispute resolution, account operations, bankruptcy and collection, and other issues related to structuring and delivering financial services to consumers and businesses.
Alexander A. Wheatley is an attorney with Fisher & Phillips LLP. He defends employers in employment-related administrative claims and lawsuits, has litigated several jury trials, and argued numerous motions in state and federal court. He also advises and provides training on issues relating to workplace discrimination, family leave, wage and hour laws, and noncompetition, non-solicitation, and nondisclosure agreements.
